interview with rene
By Sheila Kavakeb
When and Where did you realize that you had a talent for modern art?
In 1984, the first year in college at C.W. Post, I started taking art classes and some of my teachers were supportive of my sense of using colors.
What led you to become more serious about art and painting?
I became more involved after a trip to Israel after graduating from college.
Do you think your trip to Israel led you toward modern arts and ultimately toward abstract art?
Yes, definately I was inspired a lot. But I should admit that New York City which is one of the leading art centers in the world has had a great effect on me.
Do you reside in New York City?
No, I live in Long Island. However I commute to the city everyday which is inspirational in many aspects.
Is there anyone in your family with artistic talent?
Yes, my father used to paint recreationally and my uncle has a good sense in design. Fortunately my whole entended family are art lovers.
Mr. Hakimian, what is your ultimate goald in pursuing art?
I have a strong feeling for the abstract expressionism art movement. I also admire the impressionist's work. My goal is to one day be recognized as an abstract artist.
I sense light and happiness in your work. Is that a right assessment?
Yes, while painting I sense all the support that I get from my family and friends and that leads me to use more cheerful colors portraying a sense of optimism in life.
What are the important elements that interest you in painting?
I get a lot of enjoyment by experimenting with colors, patterns and designs and use of different media and surfaces. My artwork reflects my expression of thoughts and internal dialog within myself.
Kavakeb: Mr. Hakimian your artwork is extremely unique. Thank you for giving me an opportunity to interview you.
Hakimian: Thank you, for the interview.
